Natural and Nourishing Sunscreen, 6 oz

$15.97

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

~ Psalm 84:11

This lovely natural sunscreen nourishes and protects your skin without harmful chemicals. It has a light chocolatey scent (thanks to the cocoa butter). Remember, it is homemade, so it does not have a known SPF factor. What I can tell you is that I am fair-skinned and have used it successfully even at the beach. But you know your own body best!

Smooth the sunscreen on your skin. A thicker layer provides greater protection. I thinner, smoothed-in coating provides less protection. Here are the ingredients I add to my natural sunscreen and why I thought they might be helpful:

Coconut oil: Coconut oil alone contains a low-SPF level. It’s antibacterial and full of antioxidants which help counter oxidative damage (which causes cancer).

Apricot oil: Full of Vitamins A, D, and E! As such, it contains anti-aging properties as well. Very nice for conditioning your skin.

Cocoa butter: Contains anti-inflammatory properties and contains many good vitamins for your skin. It smells lovely! It’s an antioxidant powerhouse. It contains anti-aging properties, can serve as scar reducer, and can be used as a deep moisturizer. And it helps provide some waterproofing.

Beeswax: Primary source of waterproofing, but it has antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Zinc Oxide: I use non-nano, uncoated particles to prevent over-absorption. This is the primary source of SPF in our sunscreen.

Vitamin E: Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties make it really good for your skin! It also will help to preserve the shelf-life of your product.

Carrot Seed Oil: Made from Queen Anne’s Lace (daucus carota) for a more potent SPF. It supports production of natural melanin (tanning) in your skin. It has antiseptic and antiviral properties.

Raspberry Seed Oil: Studies show that this lovely oil can make abnormal skin cells self-terminate, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to add it! It also contains natural SPF.

Lavender Oil: Besides smelling lovely, it has so many amazing properties! It’s analgesic (numbing), antihistamine (limiting allergic reaction), ant-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-aging, and anti-carcinogenic. It reduces skin irritation and promotes healing.
